Making A DoD Movie: The Complete Guide

Recording Footage

Before you record you need to make your DoD "record ready". To do this you will need some files. (IF YOU ARE CURRENTLY GOING TO GOOGLE AND SEARCHING "FRAPS" PLEASE CLOSE THIS TUTORIAL). The files that you will need are as follows (click on the fie listed to download):

Note: I highly recommend you make another dod folder from which you make movies. So you have a seperate on to the one you play on. To do this simply rename your email folder to xxxx. Then reload steam. It will make you another exact folder. Use the new folder for recording, call it 'emailnameMOVIES'. This way you simply switch between the two depending on what you are doing with dod without being in the middle of the scrim with high detal and no cross hair.

1. UnReal's DoD Movie Making Config

2. Unreal's Removal Pack   (removes hltv xhair, hltv borders and scoreboard)

3. You may also want detailed textures for your movie. This I will not provide as I can not be bothered uploading them as of yet. But I might in future if people want them enough.

You are now set to record. Simply load DoD in 1024*768 resolution (please do not use any lower I will explain why later). Open the console and type exec movie.cfg and you will receive the message "UnReal's movie config loaded. You are now my bitch!" to confirm it loaded correctly. Now load you demo according to the clips you have written down.

Using the demo controls simply scroll to the start time of your first clip. Once you are in position press F1, this will take some time so be patient. When you finish the clip press F12 to stop recording.

What did you just do? By pressing F1 you executed a command in the config. F1 is bound to the command:

startmovie a 120

"startmovie" is the DoD command to record frames from the demo

"a" is the name of the series of frames

"120" is how many frames will be recorded per second (Yes alot of space is required)

Now when we watch normal movies they play back at 29.97 frames per second. Then why record at 120 fps? By doing this we get a much crisper and smoother look and feel to the finished product. This you will learn later in this tutorial; SO JUST DO IT.

When you are ready to record your second clip press F2 (do not press F1 as you have already saved some under that name). Basically follow this routine until your clips are recorded.

Congratulations you have now reached the level of:  A Nub
